CORILA announces the launch of the next Strategic Italy – Slovenia project

The POSEIDONE Kick-off Meeting, an Interreg Italia Slovenia 2021/27 strategic project, will be held in Venice on Monday 12 June 2023 from 10.30 to 12.00 at the Palazzo della Regione Fondamenta Santa Lucia, Cannaregio 23 Venice.

The POSEIDONE project is aimed at the functional area of the northern Adriatic Sea and has the general objective of promoting the protection of nature and biodiversity, the development of green and blue infrastructures (in Natura 2000 sites and in the agricultural sector), indirectly contributing to slow and sustainable development of tourism, also capitalizing on the results of previous Interreg projects, the reduction of tourist pressure on natural parks and highly natural areas and to promote biodiversity in agriculture for the improvement of the landscape, the protection of native species and the dissemination of knowledge.

The strategic project is included in the Interreg Italy – Slovenia 2021-2027 Program, within the Strategic Objective: PO 2 aimed at creating a resilient, greener and low-carbon Europe in transition towards a zero-emissions economy and as part of the specific Objective: SO 7 aimed at strengthening the protection and preservation of nature, biodiversity and green infrastructures, including in urban areas, reducing all forms of pollution.

The policy objective underlying the project is that of a greener and CO2-free Europe, which takes into consideration the fight against climate change also through the protection and implementation of biodiversity and green and blue infrastructures.

The main outputs that the project intends to achieve concern:

1) organization of joint cross-border actions aimed at carrying out advanced training days on new technologies for monitoring at sea, along the northern Adriatic coast, and at drawing up a shared calendar between the Italian and Slovenian partners on the main actions to raise awareness and clean up the sea with the involvement of local populations;

2) elaboration of a cross-border strategy for the identification and creation/enlargement of new protected areas, to identify measures that halt, slow down or reverse the loss of biodiversity and which, at the same time, mitigate the impacts generated by climate change with the aim to increase the protection of high-value habitats and species;

3) implementation of pilot actions on the experimentation of floating platforms for the stop of marine birds and restoration activities through flat islands and on the conservation of native plant varieties.
