The CoWaMa (Coastal Water Management) project aims to harmonize environmental quality control systems in coastal areas of particular environmental value through the strengthening of applied research with reference to the areas of the Venice Lagoon and Boka Kotorska Bay (Montenegro ). The results obtained will constitute a useful tool for local public administrations for long-term monitoring, environmentally friendly management and sustainable development of the areas under study, both of which are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. In the Boka Kotorska CoWaMa Bay, in particular, a demonstrative action will be carried out through the collection and analysis of samples of environmental matrices and chemical parameters, and the study of their influence on the ecosystem in comparison with similar measurements already carried out in the Venice lagoon. The distribution of the main pollutants will be defined in order to create an operating protocol that is able, thanks to periodic measurements, to control the environmental impact of human activities. The integration and standardization of methodologies will produce a consolidation of scientific networks and at the same time will provide local authorities with useful tools for an integrated management of coastal waters. xxx COWAMA – Interreg III A
